In addition and multiplication, the Swap Option changes the order of the numbers in some problems. For example, it can help students practice both 3 x 7 and 7 x 3.
In subtraction, the Negatives Option allows problems with answers below zero. This gives students practice with negative numbers. For example, if you're working on 3's, subtraction would normally present problems where you are subtracting 3 and the answer is a positive number, like 12 - 3 = 9. With negatives on, you can get problems like 2 - 3 = -1.
Turn off the Negatives Option. When it is off, subtraction problems avoid negative answers.
The up/down arrow next to a level number shows that the Swap Option is on for addition or multiplication. It means the app can switch the order of the numbers during that round.
Locked options are Pro features. The free version includes the core practice tools for learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division one number at a time. Pro features include Boss Level mode, which is the fastest way to learn your times tables.
Open Settings and tap SFX. It cycles through the sound effect choices, including Off.
Make sure your volume is up and your device is not in silent mode.
Use the gear icon in the lower left to get to the Settings menu.
Open Settings and tap Reset Progress, then follow the directions. This clears the saved progress for the current player or setup.
Open Settings and tap Round Duration. It switches between a 30-second round and a 1-minute round.
Coins are awarded at scores 5, 10, 15, and so on. The dragon coin is awarded when you solve 21 or more problems in a 30-second round, or 41 or more problems in a 1-minute round.
Parent Pro Features
A player is a local profile that keeps one student's progress separate from another student's progress on the same device. Player profiles are 3-character IDs.
The PLAYER: ABC text on the main menu and level select menus is a button. Tap it to open the player screen and switch to another profile. If no profile has been added yet, the button may say ADD PLAYER. Pro versions require at least one player profile at all times.
The PLAYER: ABC text on the main menu and level select menus is a button. Tap it to open the player screen, then tap ADD PLAYER to add a new player ID. Parent Pro supports up to two players on one device. In Pro mode one player profile is required.
Parent Pro is built for home use and supports two player profiles per device. You can also use Family Sharing to install it on more than one device. Classroom Pro is built for teachers and supports up to 40 players.
Progress in your Pro player profile is considered to be a different player. Those scores and progress are stored separately.
No. Math Speed Drill uses short local 3-character player IDs. A student can use initials, a made-up label, or a simple student number like S01.
Tap the PLAYER: ABC button, choose the player ID you want to change, and tap the rename option to the left of the player ID, which looks like a pencil. Pick your new ID and tap ABC > NEW. Progress will be saved and the player will have the new player ID. In Parent Pro, any user can rename or delete player profiles. In Classroom Pro, renaming a player ID can only be done via the Manage Classroom menu.
Tap the PLAYER: ABC button, choose the player ID you want to delete, and tap the trashcan icon to the right of the player ID. Warning: deleting a player will remove all of the saved progress for that player from the device. This cannot be undone. In Parent Pro, any user can rename or delete player profiles. In Classroom Pro, deleting a player ID can only be done via the Manage Classroom menu.
When in Pro Mode, Math Speed Drill needs at least one player available so the app always has somewhere to save local progress. If you delete the last player profile, you'll be prompted to create a new one.
In Settings there is an option to Reset All... and that will remove all player profiles and delete all progress. If you do this, there is no way to restore the progress. After that, you'll be prompted to create a new player profile because Pro Mode requires at least one.
Boss Level is the fastest way to master your times tables. It figures out which math facts still need work, brings those facts back at the right time, and moves each student toward mastery. When the percentage reaches 100%, you'll have it mastered and will be awarded a crown.
If a mastered fact is answered incorrectly during review, it may return for more practice. Master it again and the percentage will recover. The other way it can go down is if you extend the Range Option.
Boss Level repeats facts until they are mastered. It may also review mastered facts occasionally to help the student remember them.
No. Changing the range does not erase progress. Facts already mastered remain mastered, but Math Speed Drill will recalculate your percentage complete for Boss Level.
For Pro users, tapping the Range button cycles the range from 10, to 12, to 15. Range controls how high the numbers in the problems can go. Range 10 has a max of 10 + 10 or 10 x 10. Range 15 extends practice up to 15 x 15.
Each range for each level has its own leaderboard. This gives you an opportunity to gather more coins. If you cycle back to the other range, the coin will show again.
Each range contains a different number of facts. A larger range adds more facts to learn, so mastered facts may become a smaller percentage of the total. Progress has not been erased.
Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed in with the Apple ID that made the purchase and has internet access.
Classroom Pro Features
Tap the gear icon in the bottom right corner. This will take you to the Settings menu. If you have upgraded to Classroom Pro, you will see Classroom Options... The first time you go into Classroom Options, you'll be directed to create a PIN. Don't forget this PIN. You will need to use it to do any classroom or student management.
Open Classroom Options and use the Players... option there. This takes you to a teacher version of the player picker. Add a player ID for each student. You can use their initials or a code for each student like S01 - S40. Classroom Pro supports up to 40 players on one device.
In the Classroom Options menu there is an option for Require PIN. If this is YES, the ADD PLAYER button on the normal player screen will require your PIN to continue. If it is set to NO, students will be able to add their own player profiles.
Open Classroom Options and use the Players... option there. This takes you to a teacher version of the player picker. Pick the player you want to change and use the pencil icon to the left of the player ID. Change the ID and tap the button above that will say something like ABC > NEW.
Open Classroom Options and use the Players... option there. This takes you to a teacher version of the player picker. Pick the player you want to change and use the trashcan icon to the right of the player ID. Be aware that this will delete all the progress for that player ID and there is no way to undo this.
Classroom Pro is designed for one classroom device and supports up to 40 student profiles. This keeps the player list manageable on an iPhone or iPad screen.
Open the Classroom Options menu and set Require PIN to YES. Then teacher functions like adding, removing, and renaming player profiles are protected by the PIN.
If you forget the PIN, you will lose access to the Classroom Options menu and will not be able to manage the app. You can delete and reinstall the app, but that would mean losing all progress by all players on the app. To avoid this, you can email contact@badweasel.com for help. Include the device type and a brief description of what happened.
After 3 failed PIN attempts, Math Speed Drill locks PIN entry for one minute. When you later enter the correct PIN, you will get a message documenting how many failed attempts there were.
The Class Report is a printable report available only in Classroom Pro that helps the teacher track student performance in Boss Level Mode. It lists the player ID, a space where you can write the student name, and their Boss Level percent complete for Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.
Use Classroom Options to remove old player IDs and add new ones for the new class. If you need help with a full reset, contact support.
Make sure the device has internet access, then open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. If you purchased Classroom Pro through a school or enterprise link, open the app with internet access so it can refresh the subscription.
Some school-managed devices cannot make In App Purchases. In that case, the teacher or a parent can purchase Classroom Pro directly from the enterprise Classroom Pro section of the Upgrade page. You'll be emailed an activation link. Open this link on the device you want to upgrade, select Open In Math Speed Drill, and the upgrade will be installed. An activation link can only be used on one device, so make sure to only open it on the classroom device you want to upgrade. If you do not have budget to purchase Pro, you can reach out to a parent and have them purchase the Pro subscription and email you the activation link.
